- enlightens firms on environment protection programs and the prospects in green investments; and
- offers insights on prominent Bicolano businessmen’s success secrets.
Bicol Region home of the famed Mount Mayon, is composed of 6 provinces and 7 cities. It has a total land area of roughly 18, 130 square kilometeres. Population, in 2000, reached 4.7 million, with an average annual growth rate of 1.68%. Debunking the usual perception, Bicol’s economy is growing by leaps and bounds. From 5.2% in 2003, the region sustained its growth momentum by posting an accelerated 6.2% expansion in 2004. The key cities of Naga and Legazpi were ranked by the Asian Institute of Management’s Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project, in 2005, as among the Top Competitive Cities in the country.
Naga City is Bicol’s recognized center of business, education, culture and religion. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry have elevated it to the Hall of Fame as the Most Business Friendly City in the country. It is the 5th oldest city created by a Spanish Royal Decree in 1575. It is home to the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Marian festivals in Asia.
The Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the organizer, is a non-partisan voluntary business organization composed of the business units representing the agricultural, commercial, industrial and service sectors within the first to third congressional districts of Camarines Sur (loosely defined as the Metro Naga). It is the voice of business, and is the business community’s inititative for the socio-economic development of the Metro Naga and the Bicol Region.
